Government Unveils ₹5 Lakh Crore 'Green Bharat Mission' for Renewable Energy & Manufacturing

New Delhi, Delhi – In a landmark move poised to reshape India's energy landscape and industrial future, the Union Cabinet today approved the 'Green Bharat Mission' (GBM), a colossal ₹5 lakh crore investment over the next five years.

The mission outlines specific targets, including the deployment of 150 GW of solar power, 80 GW of wind power, and 20 GW from other renewable sources such as hydro and biomass by the end of the decade.

A significant portion of the funds will be directed towards developing advanced energy storage solutions, including giga-factories for lithium-ion and other next-generation battery technologies, which are critical for grid stability with intermittent renewable sources.
